Conkers are falling, and they can be dangerous for dogs

As horse chestnut trees shed their spiky cases through autumn, the shiny conkers inside can tempt dogs to chase, chew or swallow on a walk. That can lead to a nasty stomach upset, or in more serious cases, a blockage that needs urgent treatment.

  • Choking or blockage risk if swallowed whole
  • Mildly toxic if chewed or eaten
  • Spiky outer cases can cut gums and paws
  • Many dogs are drawn to chase and mouth them

Watch for vomiting, diarrhoea, drooling, abdominal pain or lethargy in the hours after a walk, especially if your dog managed to grab one before you could stop them. Seen a conker on your walk? Best to steer your dog well clear.

"Katie is professional, informative and has a lovely calming effect with my dog Cody who undergoes regular laser therapy at home. I feel it has made a difference in Cody's mobility and arthritis. I highly recommend Katie."

"Katie came to visit our cat Lola yesterday who hates getting any treatment on her skin for harvest mites. She very quickly and confidently calmed her down and applied treatment. Fabulous service."
